2020 Judges

Chief Judge: Erika Gofton

Erika GoftonErika has a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree and Post Graduate Diploma of Education (secondary) from the University of Tasmania. She has exhibited in numerous group shows and had solo exhibitions in Melbourne, Sydney and Queensland. She has been a finalist in the EMSLA, Sunshine Coast Art Prize, Mosman Art Prize, R & M McGivern Prize, Redland Westpac Art Prize, twice in the City of Albany Art Prize (winning People's Choice), and the Williamstown Contemporary Art Prize. In 2012 Erika won the $10,000 Toyota Community Spirit Travel award which enabled her to undertake a residency at Point B Worklodge in Brooklyn, New York. While there she was awarded a part scholarship for the New York Studio school to complete the Spring Drawing Marathon.

Erika is the Director of "The Art Room" which is both an alternative and support to traditional art education. She is committed to providing comprehensive, quality adult art classes that are accessible to complete beginners right through to practicing artists wishing to challenge their practice. Along with the studio focused teaching, Erika is also able to offer support with arts practice in a professional context having experience in all manners of exhibiting from Artist Run Spaces right through to commercial representation in three states.


Rob Candy

Assistant Judge: Rob Candy

Born Melbourne, Rob began painting watercolours at Ku-ring-gai Arts Centre during the 1980's with Owen Thompson, and at the Royal Art Society of New South Wales with Frederic Bates OAM and is the current President of The Watercolour Society of Victoria. Rob has judged many art shows including Lane Cove Art Society and has been a featured artist in the Australian Artist magazine most recently in 2012 and previously in October 1996, June 2002, September 2004 and November 2005. The most recent of these essays examined his painting from Tuscany. He is a passionate traveller and has taken numerous groups through China including a watercolour tour in 2010 along the Silk Road, China. Rob has led many other watercolour tours including to India, Turkey, the Balkans and Tibet.


Barbara McManus

Assistant Judge: Barbara McManus

Barbara McManus will be well known to many artists not only due to her success as a multi awarded artist but also due to her wide experience as a highly sort after tutor, demonstrator and judge and has previously judged Camberwell Art Show.

Barbara has spent many years on the teaching staff of the Victorian Artists' Society and was made a fellow of that Society in 1990. She has been the recipient of more than 50 awards including, in 1986, the coveted A.M.E. Bale Overseas Scholarship. During this time her work was included in the International Pastel Exhibition in Lille, France. Her work is in private and corporate collections in Switzerland, UK, USA and Australia. She is the winner of the inaugural A.G.R.A. 'Aspects of Excellence Medallion' in 2000 and a finalist in the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize. She has tutored groups overseas in China, The Silk Road, Greece and Italy.
