ARTIST BIO

Jo-Ann Kline

Contemporary Artist

by Jenny Brown

Growing up in Warrandyte, the leafy outskirts of Melbourne and the core of a close artist community is perhaps one of the reasons why Jo Kline has such a strong affinity for all things creative, most especially with painting and photography.  Warrnadyte for a long time has been well known for its artistic community and is part of the historical Heidelberg School Trail.

At high school Jo was fortunate to be a student of well-known artist Chris White, and later under the tuition of Ron Reynolds and Liz Mandich began to explore a variety of mediums.  Enjoying a variety  of media including watercolour, acrylics and charcoal, Jo finds that her primary inspiration is in deiscovering the simplicity of objects and figures.  She says "I like to abstract forms, creating movement and vibrancy.  When painting a subject, I seek simplicity, and use colour and texture to emphasize its movement and shape.  I adore texture and the challenges of using a limited palette."

Still living close to Warrndyte to be reminded of her original impulses, Jo has been working from her studio as a visual artist since 200.  In 2007 she completed a Diploma in Interior Design and feels both careers "merge nicely."

Jo will continue exploring and developing her style and experimenting with various mediums.  She will continue to pursue her ambitions as a passionate and devoted contemporary artist.
